Pota-Toss (pronounced Po Tay Toss is the brain child of Costa Rican mobile game developers Saborstudio. Pota-Toss is a potato tossing artillery game currently seeking Kickstarter funding for development.
(As of writing, there has been $13,343 raised with 4 days to go to reach a stretch-goal of $25,000)
Jose Cayasso and Phillipe Casorla, the graphic designer and developer off the app, who were classmates in elementary school describe the game as follows:
Pota-Toss is a new and innovative iOS game, that allows players to game in either single or multiplayer mode, with an intuitive gameplay and gorgeous GPS-based levels. The focus for the game is definitely the multiplayer side. We believe that there is a lack of multiplayer games that are based on a very simple gameplay concept. The advantage of Pota-Toss is that a tight head to head match can occur between experienced and non-experienced players, and between parents and their kids, for example.
Still, a solid single player mode is very important and we are working on that very hard. The style of the single player mode will differ a lot from that of Angry Birds, as the game will be much like a Tower Defense adventure, in which players will need to defend themselves from hordes of rotten (zombie) potatoes, called Spuds.
Saborstudio will feature buildings, mountains, trees and rocks as obstacles which will make the toss harder for both players and will be the main challenge between different levels. Saborstudio have also stated that there will be wind on the game, which will be randomized at first but eventually may evolve to location-based weather conditions, such as real time rain and snow.
The games inspiration comes from an old artillery game called Bang! Bang! When Jose wanted to play something similar and realized that no comparable game was available in the App Store. He then started developing the concept for Pota-Toss (which was originally called Vegetable-Toss.)
Jose and Phillipe are looking to update the game regularly with many other cool features that for now, I have agreed to keep under wraps – (C’mon, I can’t be telling you everything. It’ll ruin the surprise.)
How people can help
If the Kickstarter project reaches the $25,000 stretch-target, Saborstudio have declared that the App will be FREE in the App Store. Depending on the pledge, backers will get exclusive Kickstarter-only rewards, like being Pota-tized and appearing in the game, or designing a level for it to appear in the actual App.
